spirits of Hvalfjörður

This piece was created at the very beginning of my relationship with the fjord I now call home. It emerged while I was first settling into the land, listening, learning, and allowing myself to be shaped by its presence. Spirits of Hvalfjörður marked a turning point in my work. It was the first piece that invited a new dimension into my practice — the inclusion of nature’s treasures, gathered through direct encounter with the land and the sea. At the time, I was spending long moments by the water, playing and singing with the seals, walking the shores, and meeting the quiet traces of what lives and passes through this place. This artwork was born from those early conversations. It carries the spirit of the fjord itself — its guardians, its rhythms, its ancient memory. Oceanic, animal, and mythical energies weave together here, forming a portal that feels both protective and untamed. This piece holds the innocence and depth of a first connection. It vibrates with discovery, reverence, and belonging — a threshold moment where the land begins to speak, and the listening truly begins.
